grant’s trip part 4

after leaving joyce’s place, grant and i hopped on the shinkansen (bullet train to you gaijins) to kyoto.  we made it there by 10am, so we had plenty of time to visit all the sites we wanted to see.  well, that’s what we thought.  a few times, we decided to walk (correction: grant decided we would walk) to some of the places cuz they “look close on the map.”  thanks for subjecting my feet to about 5 miles of walking IN THE RAIN.

to be completely honest, i don’t remember the names of all the temples we visited in kyoto.  on this first day, we saw 3: ginkakuji, kinkakuji, and one that we’ll just call the bamboo forest.  i’m not even sure what was special about each one.  i think kinkakuji had the gold plated shrine, ginkakuji had the zen garden? and the bamboo forest had a bamboo forest.  i’m not gonna say anything clever about these places, but i’ll leave you with some pictures to observe what we saw.

after hitting up the 3 shrines, we went to check into our hotel and had a snack of mcdonalds cheese katsu burgers.  dayam, that stuff was GOOD.  anyways, after that, we headed out osaka to see the electric town and eat okonomiyaki and takoyaki.  den den town is like akihabara, osaka edition.  we went to the retro gaming stores and even the gundam store.  it was dorky and fun.

after eating, we went back to kyoto all exhausted.  the gods were playing tricks on us.  we thought we were close to the train, but we ended up walking the longest hallway in the world.

longest hallway ever. EVAR!

eventually, we made it back to our hotel and knocked out.  grant’s bruised achilles and everything…
