grant’s trip part 3

day 3 of grant’s trip was more tokyo.  we made it to shinjuku, harajuku, and then to yokohama to crash at joyce’s place.

to be completely honest, shinjuku wasn’t all that special.  the main thing that i remember is that after having lunch at a pasta place, we were walking around and found this random shooting gallery.  they had air rifles that you shoot pieces of cork out of to knock down moving targets.  grant and i tried to knock down spiderman cuz that gave the best prize, but i think it was glued to the conveyer belt.  i mean, we each hit him like 3x but nothing…

after shinjuku, we made our way over to harajuku.  our main goals that day were to do some shopping, see some harajuku girls, and walk around the urban clothing areas.  we managed to do shopping at bape and the other urban stores, but since it was raining, not too many harajuku girls out.  i guess all that makeup would get runny in the rain.

in harajuku, we also saw the murakami’d out luois vuitton store.  louis and takashi murakami have some sort of partnership.  it looked pretty cool.

after harajuku, grant and i met joyce at shibuya station to take the train with her to yokohama.  she and her husband yuki were gracious enough to let me and grant stay over their place.  it cut our travel time to kyoto the next morning.  as a side effect of staying at their place, grant and i got to taste some of joyce’s gourmet cooking.  i literally mean gourmet, as she’s graduating from courdon bleu culinary school in june.  she can be an executive chef when she’s done.

after dinner, joyce showed us around japan’s chinatown but it was POURING rain.  the rain was blowing sideways.  it was wet and uncomfortable, but it was so fun.

after getting back, we had to hang our soaked clothes cuz we each only brought a couple extra shirts and some underwear.  we planned on wearing our jeans for the whole trip.  bad move…  i also had to hang dry my insoles cuz i only had one pair of shoes…

another good thing about staying at joyce’s place, we got to have super awesome breakfast before our shinkansen.  yuki is a lucky guy, and possibly an obese guy in about 10 years after eating all her wonderful cooking.

thanks to their hospitality, we made our train on time in the morning with full bellies.  here’s a video blog of shibuya crossing before we met up with joyce.
