grant’s trip part 2

grant’s first full day in japan saw us going back to akihabara, to ikebukuro, then finally going to the yomiuri giants and yokohama bay stars game at tokyo dome.

akihabara, you already saw how that went, so i’ll skip that. in ikebukuro, we walked around IWGP (ikebukuro west gate part) and the art park. it was raining, so we took a cab to iwgp, but what the cab driver failed to tell us was that we didn’t need a cab. i paid 750 yen to go around the corner…

after the park, we got some bakudan.  bakudan is HUGE takoyaki with toppings on it.  i got mayo and green onions, while grant got curry.  i love these things.

later, we made it over to tokyo dome for the baseball game.  tokyo dome is pretty amazing, cuz it’s not just a baseball stadium, it’s tokyo dome city, a baseball stadium/amusement park.

the game was crazy.  fans are really into their teams, chanting/singing songs/playing instruments, etc.  they had songs for each individual player.  also, something that grant and i noticed about the game was that the vendors were all women.  small girls that couldn’t have weighed more than 115 lbs. were selling all the food.  they would pace up and down the aisles, some of them basically carrying kegs on their backs.  i don’t think i could have carried those things, but tiny girls were.  grant had a grand ol’ time looking at them.  he saw one he liked and tried to take a stealth picture, but idiot forgot to turn off the flash.  she kept giving us weird looks for the rest of the night.  btw, where else besides japan can you find katsu curry instead of peanuts and hot dogs.

for the seventh inning stretch, they sang songs, cheerleaders came out, and a big ass banner was put up by fans in right field.  it was kinda crazy.

grant and i made a bet during the game.  he wanted the giants to win cuz they were the home team, and i wanted the bay stars to win cuz i liked their colors.

we bet a bowl of ramen on it.  i figured it would be okay that i bought him ramen cuz he was in japan.  see, the bay stars are the worst team in the league, so i assumed i would owe him.  lucky enough for me, the bay stars played out of their mind that night, so grant bought me ramen from a cart.  neither of us had ever eaten ramen from a cart, and both of us wanted to so it was nice.  the ramen wasn’t that good, but the experience was legen-WAIT FOR IT-dary.
